About Us

History

First Bristol Federal Credit Union was established in 1935 by a group of Bristol educators and was originally known as Bristol Teachers Federal Credit Union. In the years that followed, other school systems like Plymouth and Terryville became part of the Credit Union’s family of members. Greater expansion was implemented in 1994 with the addition of many small employers throughout Bristol. Four years later, in 1998, even greater expansion came with a charter change which allowed the Credit Union to serve anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Bristol. Soon after, in 1999, the name was changed to First Bristol Federal Credit Union to better reflect the community it serves and in 2001, an additional branch was open at 902 Stafford Avenue. In 2002, the Credit Union expanded again when CT Family Federal Credit Union was merged into the First Bristol family.

When you become a member of First Bristol, you are joining thousands of other individuals who have discovered that there is a better way to do your banking. First Bristol Federal is a fully insured, full- service financial institution offering an array of products and services from First Mortgages to Auto Loans to Certificate Accounts to Mobile Banking with Bill Payment and Remote Deposit. First Bristol is available to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Bristol CT. As a Credit Union, we are a financial cooperative, with no share-holders. The members own the Credit Union. That means a higher level of service and a better deal for those who choose to be a member with lower rates on loans, higher rates on savings and generally lower fees all around.

Community

Whether it is our local schools, civic organizations, or local nonprofits helping children and families, it is important to us to serve others with both monetary donations and volunteerism. We are happy to support charity efforts and other worthy causes such as Bristol’s “Pencil Hunt”, the Connecticut Credit Union Charitable Foundation, the local United Way, the local Boys & Girls Club and the Greater Bristol Branch of the NAACP. We believe that actively engaging to help others with our time, talent, and monetary donations is the right thing to do.

Financial Literacy

First Bristol has also been a leader in Financial Literacy.  Since 2009, we have supported Financial Reality Fairs in conjunction with the Credit Union League of CT. We also provide financial literacy education for students at individual schools upon request.
